University of Louisville junior Scott McClain earned his second straight BIG EAST Athlete of the Week of honor following last week's win at the Winthrop Invitational, while junior Tarah McKay earned this week's women's award after her second straight race title.
A native of Louisville and a graduate of St. Xavier High School, McClain led the Louisville men to a second straight win to open the season, while defeating a field of 122 other runners for his second career win and his second BIG EAST honor. He covered the 8,000-meter course in a time of 24 minutes, 51 seconds for the win, which followed his season-opening title at the Mid-America Opener on Aug. 30.
McKay, a native of St. Clements, Ont., led the Louisville women to their second straight team title as well while defeating of field of more than 150 runners. She finished with a time of 17:05 across the 5,000-meter course, more than 50 seconds clear of the second-place runner to earn her second straight race title and the fifth of her career.
The BIG EAST is selecting one male and one female runner each week for the award based on individual efforts each week of the season.
Following a week off from competition, the Cards will return to action on Oct. 4 at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in their only home race of the season.
