LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After a two week break the University of Louisville cross country teams will travel to Kenosha, Wisc. this Saturday for their second meet of the season to compete in the Midwest Open. The Cards will preview the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course which is home of the 2009 BIG EAST Championships set for October 31.

The Midwest Open will have 17 teams competing, with the women starting at 12 p.m. CT and running a 5,000-meter race, followed by the men's 8,000-meter race at 12:45 p.m.

The Cards enter their second meet of the season with high hopes, following a dominating performance by both the men and women at the Mid-America Opener in Evansville, Ind. The men placed first out of four teams and the women were first out of two teams. The men individually placed the top three finishers led by Big East Athlete of the Week Matt Hughes and the women placed the top eight finishers with Tarah McKay leading the group.

The men's cross country team is starting to receive some national recognition as they are making a push to get into the top 30 of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association poll (USTFCCCA). They are ranked 39th and receiving votes in the latest rankings, while checking in at no. 5 in the Southeast Region. The women are currently ranked sixth in the region.

At the conclusion of the Midwest Open, the Cards will have a one week break before hosting the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park on October 3.
