LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
The University of Louisville track and field teams as well as multiple individuals earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honors on Wednesday.
The women's team was tabbed a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the ninth-straight year after recording a 3.05 cumulative grade-point average. The Cardinals were one of 11 BIG EAST schools recognized for achieving at least a 3.0 mark.
On the men's side, Louisville was one of just seven BIG EAST schools to be tabbed an all-academic squad, as the group finished with a 3.16 GPA.
Individually, each squad placed three student-athletes on their respective men's and women's USTFCCCA All-Academic teams.
Hannah Baker led the way on the women's side, holding a 3.90 grade-point average in accounting. Fellow throwers Liberty Slinden (biology; 3.44) and Amashi Kendall (human & health performance; 3.28) also received academic accolades.
Sam Bombaugh had the highest grade-point average on the men's side, boasting a 3.88 mark. It's the second-straight year he has earned the award. A month ago, the political science major was selected as a CoSIDA Capital One Track and Field All-American. Tyler Byrne (justice administration; 3.74) and Brad Vivace (human & health performance; 3.42) were named to the all-academic team as well.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the top 96 nationally in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
