LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
Following school-record performances, University of Louisville track and field's Calvin Arsenault and Chinwe Okoro were named BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week and BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, conference officials announced Tuesday.
A freshman, Arsenault broke the 13-year-old school record in the 110m hurdles this past weekend at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on April 20. The Kitchener, Ontario, native clocked a winning time of 14.08 in the event, beating Zek Parker's time of 14.12 in 1999. The mark ranks fifth in the conference. Arsenault also registered runner-up performances in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relays.
Okoro, winner of her third-straight weekly conference award, set the school record in the shot put behind a career-best 17.16m/56-3.75. The mark, which ranks ninth nationally, breaks D'Ana McCarty's record that she set in 2011. Okoro ranks in the fourth in the country in the discus, where she posted a first-place finish Friday on the heels of a 56.40m/185-0 throw.
The Cardinals return to action this weekend with the Drake Relays (April 26-28) and the third annual Bellarmine Classic (April 28).
