LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In another action-packed weekend, the University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams will split squads for a pair of meets, with part of the team heading to Akron, Ohio, for the Akron Invitational, a separate group heading to the prestigious Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and Matt Hughes traveling to the Washington Husky Classic.

Both meets are two-day events and will begin on Friday, Feb. 11, while Hughes' race will take place on Friday. The Akron Invitational will be held at Stile Athletics Field House, the same location as the 2011 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, with the Tyson Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas, taking place at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

At the Akron Invitational, the Cardinals open competition on Friday, with Gabrielle Jackson competing in the pentathlon. Action resumes on Saturday, Feb. 12, as Jordon Frazier and Marcellus Hobbs are slated to compete in the 400m at 11:45 a.m., and Louisville concludes the day with the field events.

Regarded as one of the best sprints and jumps meets of the year, the majority of the Cardinal squads will travel to the Tyson Invitational, which features 13 ranked men's teams and 14 ranked women's programs. Action gets underway for Louisville at noon on Friday, as Ahlivia Spencer, who won the 400m last week with a personal-best time, and Chelsea Brown will race in the 400m.

The first day of competition also features the men's and women's long jump events, the men's 400m and the women's 60m, in which Saravia Richardson and Margret Harris will be competing. Richardson currently is tied for the 22nd-fastest time in the event, and she has continually bettered her times in the 60m the past three races.

On day two, Louisville opens with the women's and men's triple jumps at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively. Kyle Gann, who set the school record this year in the pole vault (5.00m/16-4.75), will also be competing at noon. Richardson, Harris and Brown return to action at 1 p.m. in the 200m, and Louisville finishes the day with the women's 4x400m relays.

Hughes, the lone competitor at the UW Husky Classic in Seattle, will be taking part in one of the country's best distance tests. Run on a flat 307-meter Mondo track at Dempsey Indoor, the facility has become known as one of the fastest indoor tracks nationally. The Ontario native, listed in heat No. 4 of the 5,000m, has competed once this year, running the 3,000m at the Gladstein Invitational.
