LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville track and field's Edwin Kibichiy was named BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday.

A true freshman, Kibichiy competed in his first collegiate meet on Saturday at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky., and won the 3,000m title. His first-place time of 8:17.54 ranks first in the BIG EAST and is the 17th-fastest mark nationally. Notably, the Kenyan native has the best freshman mark at the Division I level at that distance.

A limited number of Cardinals return to action this week from Jan. 18-19 at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. Action at the Gladstein Fieldhouse begins at 11 a.m. on Friday and resumes at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the multi-events.
