LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Powered by 16 individual event titles, the University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams each recorded three victories at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on Friday at Cardinal Park Track Stadium.
The men's team defeated Southeast Missouri 94-51, East Tennessee State 93-46, and Central Michigan 102-57 in the four-team dual meet. The women's side scored a 102-51 win over Southeast Missouri, a 96-59 win over East Tennessee State, and a 92-62 victory over Central Michigan.
More than half of the team's victories came on the track.
Calvin Arsenault recorded a season best in the 110m hurdles, clocking a legal winning time of 14.04 in the event, while also racing to a win in the 400m hurdles. Arsenault's time of 14.04 is now the second-fastest time in school history at that distance. He also aided the 4x100m relay team, which also featured Marcellus Hobbs, Antoine Keys, and Jeron Brown, to a season-best time of 41.74.
Hobbs, who was recognized along with eight other seniors at the meet, won the 400m.
Louisville's women replicated similar success on the track, headed by Margret Harris' wins in the 100m and 200m events. The senior coasted to a win in the 100m in a wind-aided time of 11.67, four-tenths of a second faster than the runner-up. She recorded a season best in her 200m race, winning with a legal time of 24.17. Chelsea Brown (400m hurdles), Michelle Molodynia (800m), Benadate Cheruiyot (3,000m) also registered victories in their respective events.
Freshman Steve Wade had more than a 10-foot personal best in the discus to win the event title. His mark of 52.50m/172-3 ranks in the top five in the conference and gives Louisville three of the top-10 best marks in the BIG EAST in the discus. Fellow throwers Brad Vivace (shot put) and Sam Bombaugh (hammer throw) won their respective event titles, and Isaac Bowling registered a personal best of nearly two feet in the shot put to finish tied for third.
Michelle Kinsella cleared 1.80m/5-10.75 to win the high jump competition, marking the third time this outdoor season she has at least cleared that height. Her season best of 1.85m/6-0.75 ranks as the fifth-best mark nationally. Jacob Sebastian scored the lone victory for the men's jumps group in the pole vault, and Naadira Taylor leapt to a season best in the triple jump to finish third.
Louisville is idle for nearly two weeks before returning to competition at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Piscataway, N.J. The event runs from May 3-5 and will be hosted by Rutgers University.
