Men's tennis receives 2011 BIG EAST Championship rings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On Friday, Nov. 18, the University of Louisville men's tennis team and staff joined their fans, friends and families at the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex as the 2011 team received their BIG EAST Championship rings.
"Very few things I enjoy more than putting the Conference Championship Rings on the player's hand," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "To see the happiness and joy on their faces mean the world to me. Also to celebrate the Back to Back Championships with family, friends, and fans make it even more special. I want to thank all those who helped me put the event together because it was a very, very special night."
The men's tennis team is coming off of a successful 2011 campaign. The Cards (18-12) finished the season at No. 24 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Team rankings after spending 10 weeks in the top 25. Louisville captured its second consecutive and third overall BIG EAST Conference title.
U of L made its third straight, and eighth overall NCAA appearance and advanced to the regional final before falling to host, tenth-ranked Kentucky.
Austen Childs became the Cards' only two-time singles All-American after reaching the round of 16 for the second straight season. The graduating senior was also the only player in Louisville history to earn a spot in the NCAA singles championship in each of his four seasons. He also became the first Cardinal player to reach the finals of the NCAA championship in 2010.
Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk became Louisville's first doubles All-American following a quarterfinal appearance in the 2011 NCAA doubles championship. Louisville senior Austen Childs was named and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Singles All-American and teamed with fellow senior Viktor Maksimcuk to earn doubles All-American status
