Nov. 16, 2011
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Austin Siegel has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his career with the Cardinals in the 2012-13 season.
"I am thrilled to have Austin Siegel join us next season," said Ecarma. "He can be an impact type of player. Right now, he is one of the hottest players in America. He just won the Evert American ITF tournament over this past weekend and made it to the finals of the South Carolina ITF the week before."
Siegel attended Sleepy Hollow Ms. High School and Bill Adams International Tennis Academy. He is currently the top-ranked junior player New York and is fourth in the Middle Atlantic Region. He recently moved to No. 27 in the nation and has an International Tennis Federation ranking of No. 172 in the world.
Siegel has compiled a 58-21 overall singles record and has been a finalist in the majority of the tournaments in which he has competed in 2011. He won the Dutch Caribbean Junior Championships, Mendham Eastern USA Designated Tournament, Mt. Lakes Eastern USA Designated Tournament and was a runner-up in the Jamaican Junior Tournament. Siegel was also a quarterfinalist in the Canadian Under 18 World Ranking Event and the USA Grass Court Championships.
"Despite all of these achievements," said Ecarma. "He is soft-spoken and humble. Austin is coached by Bill Adams who I respect and trust immensely - Bill also coached former U of L great Damar Johnson. Austin wants to be a professional tennis player after his Louisville career and we are confident we can lay the groundwork for him to do so."
