LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Alex Gornet has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to continue his career with the Cardinals in the 2012-13 season.
"I am very excited to have Alex Gornet joining us next year," said Ecarma. "He is a very skilled player who comes from a great and supportive family. His dad, Tim, was a standout player for the Cardinals from 1982-86. Alex is very technically sound and we have the system here in place at U of L where he will flourish. He comes from one of the best high school tennis programs in the country which has coaches that produce good Division 1 players on a regular basis."
Gornet, a Louisville native, plays for St. Xavier High School, where he was named to the All-State team after reaching the singles finals of the state high school championship.
He is currently #64 the United States junior rankings and No. 7 in the Southern USA region. He went undefeated at the Southern States Team Cup and reached the finals of the Southern Designated in Memphis. Gornet was also a semifinalist of the USTA Birmingham Regional And the Southern Designated in Baton Rouge
"Alex is a superior student," said Ecarma. "He was recruited by several of our rivals - Notre Dame, Illinois, and Indiana and am happy that he will be on our side wearing the red and black. Lastly, I am sure the tennis community of the city of Louisville and the entire state will take joy in seeing him play, grow, and succeed."
