Brown Advances to Consolation Quarterfinals of Southern USA Junior Championships

University of Louisville incoming freshman Jeffrey Brown reached the consolation quarterfinals of the Southern USA Junior Championships while fellow Cardinal classmate Alex Gornet reached the consolation round of 16 in the tournament.

"Jeffrey played well in Mobile and progressed far into the Southerns," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "This is an elite region in the country and a top 16 finish is good work. After winning the Louisiana State qualifier he is building steam entering this summer's tournament circuit. Alex Gornet made it to the round of 16 consolation. Louisville was well represented among the best players in this nine state region."

Brown opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Allen Jackson to in the main draw to reach the round of 32 where he fell -4, 3-6, 6-1 to ninth-seeded John Richmond. Brown beat Emerson Walsh in straight sets and outlasted Zachary Bost 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11) in the round five qualifier. In the fifth round, he picked up a 7-6(2), 3-6, 1-0(8) win over Benjamin Donovan to advance to the quarterfinals where he fell 6-2, 6-3 to Thomas Mayronne.

Gornet defeated David Durham 6-0, 6-1 in his first round match, but lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to Brent Lett in the round of 32. Gornet picked up straight-set wins over Trey Carter and Michael King in the round five qualifier. In the fifth round, the lost to Harrison Kennedy 6-4, 6-1.
