Alex Gornet was named to the Capital One Academic All-District At-Large team

University of Louisville men's tennis player Alex Gornet was named to the Capital One Academic All-District At-Large team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on May 15. He is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

The eight all-district teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Gornet, a sophomore (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) chemistry major, posted a 26-7 overall singles record and went 16-4 in dual matches playing mostly at Nos. 2 and 3. He also compiled a 23-16 overall doubles record and with a 14-11 mark mostly in the No. 3 spot.

To be eligible for academic all-district teams, student-athletes must be starters or important reserves with at least 3.30 cumulative grade point averages. Candidates also must complete at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and be at least sophomores athletically.

First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

The Cardinals finished the season with a 21-8 overall record and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament for the 10th time in program history
