The University of Louisville men's tennis team earned the No. 3 see in the 2014 American Athletic Conference Championship and will face sixth-seeded Temple Friday at 1 p.m. (EDT).
Host Memphis earned the top seed and a first-round bye while South Florida is the No. 2 seed. The winner of the Louisville/Temple match will face the winner of the match between USF and the No. 7 seed Connecticut. The championship match will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. (EDT).
"Being a top-three seed in the conference tournament is a positive," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "This notes our 15th straight season being one of the top three seeds. I do not recall ever playing Temple but I know they are trying to move up in the world of college tennis. In the postseason, every opponent is dangerous and we have to be on task every minute.
The Cardinals are No. 30 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings and bring a 20-6 overall record into the conference championship - marking the eighth 20-win season in program history.
This will be the first meeting between Louisville and Temple. The Owls enter the championship with an 11-10 overall record and are currently on a six-match win-streak.
"Our team has momentum after four straight shutouts and we are relatively healthy," said Ecarma. "We, as a coaching staff, believe that we know how to prepare a team for the postseason. We have won our conference championship three of the last four seasons. We are always excited at this time of year."
