LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will host a double header on Wednesday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards will take on Murray State at 12 p.m. and Morehead State at 5.p.m.
"We are excited to play tomorrow. I think by this time of the season players want to play matches," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We also want to try to build on the momentum from our Virginia Tech win."
The Cards (10-8) enter the match ranked No. 43 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings. Louisville is coming off of a thrilling 4-3 victory to Virginia Tech last Saturday. Senior Andrew Carter and freshman Albert Wagner are No. 55 in the ITA doubles rankings. Freshmen Michael Lippens and Albert Wagner lead the team with 24-8 singles records. Lippens is 10-5 in dual matches, playing mostly at Nos. 2 and 3, while Wagner is 12-4 playing mostly at Nos. 3 and 4.
Murray State comes into the match with a 3-6 record. The Racers are coming off a 1-5 loss to No. 7 ranked Kentucky. This will be the 35th meeting between the teams. The Cardinals have won the last ten meetings, with the last eight ending in a score of 7-0 in favor of the Cards.
Morehead State enters the match with an 8-5 record. The Eagles are 2-1 in there last three matches. This will be the 30th meeting between the teams with the Cardinals winning all but the first meeting in 1983. The Eagles are led by junior Nathan Martin who was named to the pre-season All-OVC team.
Following Wednesday's match, the Cards will return to action as they hit the road on March 20 to face No. 21 Indiana in Bloomington at 3 p.m.
