Stiefelmeyer Named American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week

March 18, 2014

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer was named American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week on March 18. This marks the second straight week Stiefelmeyer has earned the honor.

Stiefelmeyer (Vienna, Austria) led the No. 26 Cardinals, the highest ranked team in the conference, to a pair of wins over Big Ten opponents in Michigan State and No. 59 Indiana. The junior picked up two wins at No. 1 singles and another victory at No. 1 doubles. His victories included a straight set win over No. 61 Sam Monette of Indiana. He has now won his last five matches in straight sets and improves to 10-6 in dual matches.

"Sebastian has been playing a little differently lately," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He is being more aggressive and taking control of the points more. In the past, his reputation had been only a defensive player, but not anymore."

The Cardinals (13-4) will travel to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech on March 20.
