Men's Tennis Set to Host Illinois State and Chicago State Friday

The University of Louisville men's tennis team will play host to Illinois State at 2 p.m. and Chicago State at 6 p.m. Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Admission is free.

About Louisville The Cardinals (8-4) enter this Friday's matches ranked No. 29 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings - jumping nine spots from last week's No. 38 showing. UofL is coming off a 5-2 loss at No. 3 Oklahoma. Prior to that, the Cards upset No. 23 Northwestern of Feb. 28 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Michael Lippens was named Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the American Athletic Conference on March 4. Lippens was 2-0 in singles on the week, as Louisville scored an upset over No. 23 Northwestern and fell in a battle with No. 3 Oklahoma. The Cardinals moved to 8-4 on the year behind Lippens' play, as he scored victories over Northwestern's Alp Horoz and Oklahoma's Alex Ghilea. The junior leads the team with a 27-6 singles mark (10-1 in dual matches) and has won 14 of his last 15 matches

Following this Friday's action, the Cards travel to Tucson, Ariz. to take on the University of Arizona on March 10 at 2:00 p.m.

Scouting the Redbirds: The Illinois State men's tennis team (5-4) fell 7-0 to No. 61 Indiana March 2 at the IU Tennis Center. The loss snapped the Redbird's current four game winning-streak. After Friday's action the Redbirds travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on South Alabama on March 13.

Series Record: This is the first meeting between the two teams
Scouting the Cougars: The Chicago State men's tennis team defeated the Quincy University Hawks 7-0 on March 1 to bring the Cougars to 1-10 on the season. Junior Mario Noboa won his third straight singles match of the season against Lane Luhring 6-4, 6-2. Following the match on Friday, Chicago State is scheduled to travel to Highland Heights, Ky. to play Northern Kentucky on March 8.
