PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Louisville's Michael Lippens was named Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the American Athletic Conference.

Lippens (West Long Branch, N.J.) was 2-0 in singles on the week, as Louisville scored an upset over No. 23 Northwestern and fell in a battle with No. 3 Oklahoma. The Cardinals moved to 8-4 on the year behind Lippens' play, as he scored victories over Northwestern's Alp Horoz and Oklahoma's Alex Ghilea. The junior leads the team with a 27-6 singles mark (10-1 in dual matches) and has won 14 of his last 15 matches.

"I'm grateful to the American Athletic Conference for recognizing not only Michael's weekend and his semester," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He is 15-1 since the semester started in Orlando. He has been a player the entire team can count on."

The Cardinals (8-4) will return to action Friday, March 7 when they play host to Illinois State at 2 p.m. and Chicago State at 6 p.m.
