Men's Tennis Set to Host No. 23 Northwestern

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will play host to No. 23 Northwestern at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Admission is free.

"We are excited about hosting Big Ten power Northwestern at Bass- Rudd on Friday," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "They have a great tennis tradition which includes, Todd Martin, former finalist at Wimbledon. Coach Arvid Swan had done a great job of making them at team to be reckoned with again. This is a part of what I call the best home match slate in program history."

UofL (7-3) enters this Friday's match ranked No. 38 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings. The Cards are coming off a 5-2 loss to No. 20 Wake Forest on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Junior Michael Lippens carries a team-best 25-6 overall singles record and has won 12 of his last 13 singles matches. Junior Van Damrongsri stands atop the doubles leaders with 18 victories.

Following Friday's match, the Cards will travel to Norman, Okla., to face third-ranked Oklahoma on March 2.

Scouting the Wildcats: The No. 23 Wildcats improved to 10-4 on the season and 7-1 at home with a 6-1 victory over Valparaiso on Feb. 23. The No. 21 doubles team of Raleigh Smith and Mihir Kumar had an 8-6 victory over the No. 14 doubles team of Casey MacMaster and Denis Nguyen of Harvard on Feb. 21. No. 85 Freshmen Sam Shropshire is coming off an 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss to Jeffrey Schorsch of Valparaiso on Feb. 23.
