LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team is back in action Saturday when the Cards play host to Belmont at 11 a.m. and Tennessee Tech at 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"The players will be glad to get back into action this weekend," said head coach Rex Ecarma. "We have been training hard and matches may be a relief. Playing a doubleheader is a little difficult since we have played more matches than almost any team in the country. I like to put challenges in front of them and watch them grow."
Louisville is currently No. 35 in the ITA team rankings. Senior Andrew Carter and freshman Albert Wagner are No.35. Freshman Michael Lippens leads the team with a 17-5 overall singles record and is 4-1 in dual matches. Albert Wagner follows closely with a 16-5 overall mark and is 5-1 in the 2012 dual season. Sebastian Stiefelmeyer stands at third on the team with a 15-4 record and carries a perfect 6-0 mark in dual matches.
U of L brings a 5-4 record into the weekend after a 5-2 win over No. 68 Clemson last Saturday. In that match, the Cards got singles wins from Michael Lippens, Albert Wagner, Chris Simich and Luis Elizondo. Prior to that, the Cards suffered a 6-1 loss to Ohio State snapping a 31 match unbeaten streak at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Louisville will play host to Wake Forest on Feb. 25.
