Viktor Maksimcuk Named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - Viktor Maksimcuk was named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 17 as the University of Louisville continued its hold on the league's weekly recognition by collecting its third straight award of the season. Maksimcuk was honored following a 3-0 weekend in singles play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Charlottesville, Va.

The junior from Subotica, Serbia, went 3-0 in the No. 4 singles position with victories over players from No. 2 Ohio State, No. 5 Baylor and No. 11 Mississippi. The junior defeated 34th-ranked Shuhei Uawa of OSU 6-3, 6-2 on Feb. 12, Baylor's Sergio Ramirez 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 on Feb. 13 and Mississippi's Adrian Skogeng 6-2, 6-2 on Feb. 14. He also teamed with junior Simon Childs in No. 1 doubles against Baylor to earn an 8-5 win and help secure the doubles point and an 8-5 victory for the 16th-ranked Cardinals.

U of L (8-2) is back in action this weekend when the Cards play host to No. 42 Vanderbilt Friday at 3 p.m. and Brown Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
