PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville sophomore Albert Wagner was named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Week in the third weekly awards of the spring 2013 season.

Wagner, a sophomore from Kuemmersbruck, Germany, went 1-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles last week. He defeated No. 58 Nelson Vick of North Carolina 6-2, 6-2 from the No. 2 position to help the Cardinals knock off No. 19 North Carolina 4-2. Wagner, paired with freshman Alex Gornet, defeated David Hopkins and Amogh Prabhakar from Wake Forest 8-6 from the No. 1 spot. The No. 31 ranked doubles team also claimed an 8-7 win against Esben Hess-Olesen and Oystein Steiro of North Carolina.

"Albert's game is really coming together in singles and doubles," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "His hands at the net are faster and his groundstrokes are getting bigger. He takes care of his diet and rest off the court. This honor could not have happened to a more deserving person."

The Cards (4-4) will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., where they will face Minnesota on Feb. 8 and Boise State on Feb. 10.
