The University of Louisville men's tennis team will travel to Durham, N.C. to face No. 26 Washington in the fourth annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. at Duke's Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
Tenth-ranked Duke (1-0) and No. 47 will square off following the match. The winners will meet up on Sunday at 1 p.m. to decide one of 16 spots at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 17-20 in Charlottesville, Va. The consolation match will take place Sunday at 4 p.m.
"We are excited to be playing in the National Kick-Off Weekend against Pac 10 power Washington," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "The Huskies are very well-coached and have a couple of stars on their team. We have won our regional the last two seasons and qualified for the National Indoor Team Championships. We will do everything we can to make it three in a row."
The Cardinals (3-0) are No. 30 in the ITA team rankings and are led by senior Andrew Carter who is No. 113 singles and No. 24 in doubles along with freshman Sebastian Stiefelmeyer. Louisville is coming off of a 6-1 win at No. 38 Maryland. The Cards surrendered the doubles point, but came back to sweep single en route to their third straight win. Louisville opened the 2012 season with a doubleheader sweep of Xavier and Austin Peay.
No. 26 Washington (3-0) is led by No. 15 Kyle McMorrow.
