LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will open the 2014 dual match season on Friday when the Cards play host to Morehead State at 1 p.m. and Murray State at 5:30 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Admission is free.
"We are excited to get the dual match season started," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "This team is very ambitious and it showed at the UCF Invitational last week winning 45 of 58 individual matches against high-level competition. I am able to be more creative in doubles teams because the players understand our system more."
About Louisville: Entering the 2014 dual match season, the Cardinals stand at No. 48 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings. Junior Michael Lippens registered a team-best 17-5 singles record in preseason tournament play while juniors Van Damrongsri and Sebastian Stiefelmeyer combined for a 10-3 team-leading doubles record.
The Cardinals posted a 15-13 record and a runner-up finish in their final season the BIG EAST Conference in 2013. UofL returns nine players from last year's team including two-time all-conference selections juniors Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Albert Wagner.
Following Friday's action, the Cards will travel to Columbus to face Middle Tennessee in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Feb. 25. Ohio State and Denver will face off in the other first round match. The winners will meet on Feb. 26 to decide who will move on to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship which will be held Feb. 14-17 at Texas A&M.
