The first Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings of the 2012 spring season were released on Jan. 3 and the University of Louisville's Andrew Carter and Sebastian Stiefelmeyer are No. 24 while Carter stands in at No. 113 in singles. The Cardinals are No. 30 in the team rankings.
"I am happy to see Andrew Carter get his due respect by being nationally ranked in singles and doubles," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "This is his first doubles ranking and third time being ranked in singles. He has really evolved both as a player and a person and really wants to lead this team. Also, Sebastian Accomplished his first ranking in his very first semester. I am proud of him as well."
Carter, a senior from Summerfield, N.C., compiled an 8-5 singles record and reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in the fall. He and Stiefelmeyer paired to produce a team-best 8-2 mark in doubles. The duo won the White 4 Division of the UVA Ranked +1 tournament and advanced to the finals of the Duke Fab 4 `B' Flight. Carter and Stiefelmeyer reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional.
U of L will open dual match play Jan. 19 when the Cards play host to Austin Peay and Xavier at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
