Simon Childs reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, but fell to Vanderbilts's Ryan Lipman and the doubles teams of Childs and Child and Maksimcuk and Carter also advanced to the quarterfinals, but lost to teams from Tennessee and Vanderbilt as the University of Louisville men's tennis team concluded play in the tournament Sunday. "I am really proud of Simon, not only because he made it to the final four that started with the region's best 103 players, but with the way he fought through the draw," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "He had no easy matches and won four very intense matches in a row. It was truly a breakthrough for him."
Simon Childs picked up four wins against players from Indiana, Memphis, Purdue and East Tennessee to advance to the main draw quarterfinals where Lipman edged him 6-4, 7-6(2).
The doubles team of Austen Childs and Simon Childs went 2-0 with wins over teams from Kentucky and Indiana before falling 8-6 to Vanderbilt's Ryan Lipman and Vijay Paul in the quarterfinals. Andrew Carter and Viktor Maksimcuk combined to beat duos from Wright State and Vanderbilt, but lost to Tennessee's Rhyne Williams and Boris Conkic 8-6 in the quarterfinals.
