MEMPHIS - University of Louisville sophomores Albert Wagner and Sebastian Stiefelmeyer advanced to the singles round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Saturday. The Cards finished the day with five singles wins.
"Sebastian and Albert led the way for us today winning twice each," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "They both are playing well. Sebastian was really disappointed about doubles and wanted to make up for it. Albert played the match of the day. He was down a set and two breaks and fought back to win 4-6 6-4 6-4 in a thriller."
Stiefelmeyer opened the round of 64 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ball State's Patrick Elliott and went on the defeat Kentucky's Kevin Lai 6-4, 6-4 to reach the round of 16.
Wagner topped Murray State's Adam Taylor 6-1, 6-1 in his opening round match and prevailed over Vanderbilt's Kristopher Yee in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision to reach the round of 16.
Freshman Austin Siegel defeated UT-Chattanooga 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 64 before falling 6-4, 6-3 to Vanderbilt's Gonzales Austin.
