Kuhn Wins 'B' Singles Title, Gupta and Damrongsri Capture 'A' Doubles at Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Jonathan Kuhn captured the `B' singles title while Sumit Gupta and Van Damrongsri won the `A' doubles division of the Louisville Invitational Snnday. Dante Terenzio and the doubles teams of Donaldson and Amaury Derognat and Brad Merchant and Terenzio finished runner-up in their respective divisions. "Louisville had a great day today," said head coach Rex Ecarma. "This is the first time in this tournament that we have made it to the finals in every division." Flight `A' doubles featured an all-Louisville final after Gupta and Damrongsri teamed to beat Xavier's Phil Diaz and Brandon MacDonald 8-5 in the semifinals. Donaldson and Derognat defeated Belmont's Renato Antun and Rafael Matos 8-2 in the other semifinal. Gupta and Damrongsri prevailed 8-5 in the final match to take the title. In `B' doubles, Merchant and Terenzio downed Xavier's Richard Canelas and Michael Moe 8-4 to reach the finals, where they fell 8-2 to Belmont's Henrique Nobiato and Bruno Silva. "Brad played the best he has ever played in the semis, but he and Dante lost in their first-ever doubles final," said Ecarma. " It was so nice to have both doubles finalists from our team. Sumit won his second doubles tournament in a row with a different partner. I do not think he and Van were behind in any of their doubles matches this weekend." Kuhn secured his first tournament singles title with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Belmont's Matos in the `B' division. Terenzio finished runner-up in the `A' division after falling to Xavier's Mei 6-2, 6-3 in the title match. "Dante had a nice tournament, making it to two finals," said Ecarma. "He is showing his potential. Jonathan had another exciting match today as he won he his first tournament division. My final thought is that I am happy that these returning players are performing on this stage. They have been in the shadows of the `Fab 4' and it was a pleasure to see them have their well-deserved moment in the sun." Louisville Winter Invitational Singles
