TULSA, Okla. - - University of Louisville senior Austen Childs advance to the second round of the D/Novo/ITA All-American Main Draw Thursday.

Childs, No. 10 in the ITA preseason singles rankings, opened main draw play with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Georgia Tech's Juan Spir. He followed with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory over Wake Forest's Jon Wolff.

"The All-American Championship is `who's who' of our sport," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. It is the NCAA tournament of the fall season and every top player in the country is here. I am pleased that Austen has started his senior year with the moment he produced his junior year. He defeated two talented players back-to-back. He is very strong and fit and it showed today. He also showed his improvement in transitioning to the net. We believe that you have to continue to make changes in your game to progress. Austen has done just that."

The 13th ranked doubles team of seniors Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari battled, but fell 9-7 to Stanford's second-ranked Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacker.

"We were two points away from winning against a great team, but did not close out," said Ecarma. Thacker was the best junior in America three years ago and Klahn won a doubles round in the U.S. Open. We still have the backdraw in doubles tomorrow and hope we can continue to play at this level."
