Louisville Men's Tennis Off to Solid Start at South Carolina Fall Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up three doubles wins and five singles wins on the first day of the South Carolina Fall Invitational Friday at the Sam Daniel Tennis Facility on the South Carolina Campus. The tournament includes players from Arkansas, Louisville, North Carolina and South Carolina. In singles action, sophomores Viktor Maksimcuk and Alejandro Calligari and freshmen Andrew Carter, Adam Donaldson and Robert Hall, registered wins for the Cards. Maksimcuk battled North Carolina's Brennan Bovajian to a 6-7, 7-6 (3), 7-6 win. Calligari defeated UNC's Cameron Ahari 6-1, 6-4. Carter beat the Tarheels' Tyler Meyer 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Hall picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over North Carolina's Zach Hunter and Donaldson defeated UNC's Maclane Wilkinson 6-1, 6-4. In doubles action, Maksimcuk and freshman Sumit-Prakash Gupta teamed to beat Hunter and Boyajian 9-7. Senior Robert Rotaru and Calligari defeated North Carolina's Luke Mojica and Andrew Crone 8-6. Hall and Donaldson posted an 8-4 win over the Tarheels' Alex Rafiee and Ahari. "I was pleased with our doubles play," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I felt we played solid, but fought really hard and stayed positive. Sumit and Viktor debuted very well, and Robert and Alejandro continue to play very efficiently. The singles matches were a lot of fun, especially Viktor's three-set tie-breaker against one of the top freshmen in the country." The tournament continues on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday matches start at 8:30 a.m.
