Men's Tennis Open Ball State Invitational with Eight Wins

MUNCIE, Ind. Freshmen Jeffrey Brown and Colton Buffington helped led the University of Louisville's men's tennis team to eight wins on day one of the Ball State Invitational Friday.

"We almost had a perfect day. We will try to get one tomorrow," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Jeff claimed a spot in the A Division Singles Division quarterfinals and Colton is in the B Division quarterfinals. Also both of our doubles teams advanced to their quarterfinal rounds."

In `A' singles, Brown defeated IUPUI's Thomas Gans 6-0, 6-2 in his opening round and went on to beat Dayton's Colin Bernier 6-3, 6-1 in the second round. In the `B' singles division, Buffington picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dayton's Robert Salcedo and edged Miami's David Packowitz 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(6) to reach the quarterfinals.

In flight `A' doubles action Brown teamed with sophomore Luis Elizondo to beat Butler's Billy Weldon and Austin Woldmoe 9-8(2) and while Buffington and sophonore Van Damrongsri defeated IUPUI-Fort Wayne's Alfonso Costas and Tim Saltys 8-4 in the `B' flight.
