The University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up five wins on the opening day of the Duke Fab Four Invite Friday in Cary, N.C.
The Cardinals were perfect in singles play with all four participating players reaching the semifinals of their respective 16 player draws. In the `Section A' draw, junior Andrew Carter topped N.C. Central's Jack Waissen 6-4, 6-2 and senior Viktor Maksimcuk picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over No. 85 Joey Burkhardt of North Carolina.
Senior Alejandro Calligari edged North Carolina's Zach Hunter 7-6(6), 5-7, 6-3 in `Section B.' Fellow senior Simon Childs defeated East Tennessee State's Robin Asker 6-3, 7-5 in `Section C.'
Carter and Maksimcuk picked up the Cards' lone doubles win on the day with an 8-4 decision over South Carolina's Jake Bowling and Harry Menzies in the `Section C' consolation draw.
