LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team completed day one of Louisville Fall Invitational Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards went 2-3 in singles play, while the team of Andrew Carter and Adam Donaldson advanced to the quarterfinals of the `A' doubles draw.
"Our young guys are showing improvement," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "They worked really hard today and are still learning to close out matches. They will continue to play throughout the weekend and I expect steady improvement."
The Cards opened the day with a first round win in doubles as the sophomore tandem of Carter and Donaldson edged Tennessee Tech's Alex Chen and Josh Girling 9-8(7-4) in the `A' flight.
In Flight `A' singles action, Carter defeated Western Kentucky's Currie Martin 6-3, 7-5 in the first round , but fell to Tennessee Tech's Edward Jones 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
In Flight `B,' Donaldson picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Morehead State's Nathan Blum, and lost to Illinois State's Skip Span 6-4, 7-5.
Eastern Kentucky's Carlos Valdenebro defeated U of L sophomore Sumit Gupta 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in flight `A.'
The Louisville Fall Invitational will continue Saturday with doubles play starting at 9 a.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
