Men's Tennis Falls to #3 Ohio State

The No. 15 University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 6-1 to the No. 3-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes Sunday afternoon in Columbus. The Buckeyes improve to 13-1 with the win and the Cardinals move to 8-4. U of L scored when unranked senior Simon Childs upset #103 Ille Van Engelen in a 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 three set victory. Another highlight included a win at No. 1 doubles when #26 Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk upset #6 Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola 8-4. During the doubles point, the #50 duo of Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari battled the #10 pair of Matt Allare and Peter Kobelt but fell 8-5. Austen Childs and Maksimcuk evened the doubles score at 1-1 with their win. Unranked Robert Hall and Adam Donaldson gave #66 Devin McCarthy and Balazs Novak all they could handle before falling 8-6 and tipping the doubles point to OSU. First to fall in singles was freshman Dante Terenzio, who fell 6-1, 6-1 to Balazs Novak right before Calligari fell to #45 Matt Allare 6-4 ,6-3. #11 Austen Childs dropped his first set 6-3 and then pushed #21 Chase Buchanan before falling 7-6 and clinching the match for the Buckeyes. At No. 5, U of L's Andrew Carter was edged 7-6 in his first set and then fell 6-3 in the second to #55 Devin McCarthy. After Simon Childs won, #100 Viktor Maksimcuk won his first set, fell 7-6 in the second and then lost 6-3 in the third to #5 Blaz Rola.
