Louisville, KY - Junior Sebastian Stiefelmeyer's 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 win over Andreas Bjerrehus at No. 2 clinched the win as the University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Virginia Tech 4-3 Friday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals improve to 7-2 on the season while the Hokies drop to 4-3.

At No. 2 doubles, Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri took the first match 8-4 against Jai Corbett and Joao Corbett. The Hokies answered at No. 3 doubles where Amerigo Contini and Florian Nicoud defeated Alex Gornet and Eric Bonfre 8-4. The first point of the match came down to court No. 3 where Andreas Bjerrechus outlasted Albert Wagner and Chris Simich 8-7.

In singles action, Chris Simich tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Joao Monteiro at No. 4. Luis Elizondo pulled the Cards ahead 2-1 by beating Aaron Gomez 6-3 at No. 5. The Cards took a 3-1 lead at the six-spot where Michael Lippens picked up a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Jai Corbett 6-2, 7-5.

The Hokies answered when Amerigo Contini defeated Albert Wagner fell 6-1, 6-2 at the top seed to make the score to 3-2. Sebastian Steieflemeyer sealed the win for the Cards with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 over Andreas Bjerrechus at No. 2.

Koontz and Alex Gornet battled at the three-spot before Koontz prevailed 4-6, 7-6, 7-6

The Cards take on No. 20 Wake Forest on Sunday at 12 p.m.
