LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The No. 35 University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Tennessee Tech 6-1 to complete a two-match sweep Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards improve to 7-4 on the season.
"It was nice to win our third doubles point in a row," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Albert and Drew had a pretty easy time, but Lippens was the hero on the No. 3 doubles court. Sebastian defeated a very good player at one. Robert and Albert are rolling in singles right now. We need that because we play seven ranked teams in a row. The MVPs were Michael Lippens and Albert Wagner."
Louisville won at Nos. 2 and 3 in doubles take a 1-0 lead. Albert Wagner and Andrew Carter cruised to an 8-1 victory over Artem Tarasov and Vasily Eremeev. At the top seed, Tech's Alex Chen and Syrym Abdukhalikov teamed to beat Robert Hall and Sebastian Stiefelmeyer to knot the doubles matches. Michael Lippens and Amaury Derognat topped Justin Kirstein and Alejandro Bueno 8-4 at the three-spot to clinch the first point of the match.
In singles, Hall put the Cards up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kirstein at No. 6. Wagner beat Eremeev 6-2, 6-2 to increase the lead to 3-0. On court No. 5, Chris Simich's 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tarasov clinched the win. Lippens beat Bueno 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 and Stiefelmeyer closed the match with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 decision over Abdukhalikov at the top seed.
