LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated visiting Murray State 7-0, capping its season-opening doubleheader with its second straight shutout Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals defeated Morehead State 7-0 in the first match of the day.

"I'm really pleased with the chemistry of the team with the guys really cheering each other on and supporting each other," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "I think right know where they know how to win at a high level and they see a little bit of our swagger back. I really like our confidence and our chemistry. They're really fun to coach and I want to invite our fans back the next time we are at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. They're going to see a great product. Our player of the match was Amaury Derognat."

For the second straight time, the Cards swept through doubles to claim the first point of the match. Juniors Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri started off strong for the Cards with a 6-0 victory over Adam Taylor and Max McLean at the top seed. Junior Chris Simich and senior Amaury Derognat closed out doubles with a 6-1 victory over Aleks and Nicholas Mitric at No. 2.

In singles action, UofL won all six matches in straight sets. Junior Michael Lippens cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Baroetavena at No. 5 to increase the lead to 2-0. Luis Elizondo followed suit on court three with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Alek Mitric. Stiefelmeyer's 6-0, 6-1 win over Adam Taylor at the No. 1 slot provided the decisive fourth point in the match.
