The University of Louisville men's tennis team concluded play at the Florida Gulf Coast Shootout with nine singles wins against Indiana Saturday.
In Division `A,' sophomore Viktor Maksimcuk posted a pair of wins while freshmen Robert Hall, Andrew Carter and Sumit-Prakash Gupta also prevailed.
In the `B' Division, Carter, Gupta, senior Robert Rotaru and freshman Adam Donaldson picked up victories.
"The freshmen: Robert Hall, Andrew Carter and Sumit-Prakash Gupta brought a tremendous surge of energy, enthusiasm and fire to this weekend's matches," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Not only are they playing a solid level of tennis, but they are also firing the entire team up and everyone is really responding to their energy. Viktor Maksimcuk was head-and-shoulders the dominant player in this invitational and really showed that he could win outdoors. Viktor, Sumit and Andrew Carter all finished undefeated in singles. Robert Rotaru and Alejandro Calligari finished undefeated in doubles. The team really gelled today and everybody was fighting for each other."
The Cards will open the dual match season on January 16 when the play host to Duquesne at 11:00 a.m. and Murray State at 6:30 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
