The Louisville men's soccer team will host Kentucky in the Battle of the Bluegrass on Friday, Sept. 14 in Cardinal Park at 7:00 p.m. The game is a Red Out and all fans are encouraged to wear red to the game.
The Cardinals are coming off a 3-2 double overtime win over No. 15 Wake Forest. The Cardinals own a 3-2-0 overall record, winning all three contests at home. Seniors Ryan Smith and Greg Cochrane lead the Cardinals with two goals this season for four points. Sophomore Dylan Mares also has four points with one goal and two assists. Sophomore Joachim Ball leads the team in goal with a 1.36 goals against average with seven saves on the year.
Kentucky earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 win over St. Joseph's. The Wildcats enter the match with a 1-4-0 overall record. UK has faced three ranked opponents in their first five games. The Cats are led by junior forward Tyler Riggs who has netted two goals and dished out one assist on the year. Junior keeper Jack Van Arsdale and freshmen keeper Callum Irving have both seen time in goal for the Wildcats. Van Arsdale has a 1.56 goals-against average and Irving hasa 2.00 goals-against average and one shut outs.
Kentucky leads the series 11-12-4. The Cardinals are currently on a three game winning streak against the Wildcats, posting a 2-0 victory on Sept. 9,2010. The two teams did not play last season.
