LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For the second time this year, Louisville men's soccer associate head coach Mario Sanchez will serve as an assistant with the U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team as the squad competes at the upcoming Copa Mexico De Naciones in Mexico City, Mexico.
Sanchez, who is entering his fifth season with the Cardinals this fall, will again work alongside U.S. U-17 MNT head coach Richie Williams during the event, which is set for August 2-10. In January, Sanchez served as an assistant as the U.S. team won the Aegean Cup in Turkey.
"I am honored to again be selected to represent the USA and the University of Louisville at the highest level of international youth soccer," Sanchez said. "Winning the Aegean Cup was a terrific experience and I'm excited to see what this group can do in Mexico."
The USA has been placed into Group C and will compete against China (Aug. 2), Argentina (Aug. 3) and Paraguay (Aug. 4) in the preliminary round. The top two teams in each of the four groups will advance to the quarterfinal round on Aug. 6. The semifinal matches are set for Aug. 8, while the final round is scheduled for Aug. 10.
The 2014 collegiate season, including Louisville's debut in the Atlantic Coast Conference as well as the opening of Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium, is scheduled to officially kick off on Friday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m., ET against Maryland. Season tickets are currently on sale to the general public and will provide admission to both men's and women's regular season matches.
