Head coach Ken Lolla announced that high school players Luis Gerardo Ramirez , Dean Abdehou, Daniel Brennan, Raul Martinez, and Marlon Hairston have signed national letters of intent to play for the University of Louisville next season. The five signees join transfers Santiago Velez from Ohio State, Ade Akinsanya from Boston University, Zack Foxhoven, from UCLA, and Joachim Ball from Germany as newcomers for 2012.
"We are excited about the depth of this recruiting class," said head coach Ken Lolla. "It is a very talented and experienced class that will impact the program immediately. We added players that have competed at the highest level and that will help fill the void left from graduation."
Ramirez , a 5-11 forward, is ranked 70th by Top Drawer Soccer. Ochoa plays club soccer for Texans SC in Houston, Texas. He played for the U16 Starting XI in the USSDA Central Conference. He was named MVP champion at the Dalecarlia Cup in Borlange, Sweden while playing with the Cruz Azul select team. He also participated in the U17 National Team mini camp.
Abdehou, a 5-7 midfielder, played four years at IMG Pendleton School. He was ranked 113th in the ESPNHS Top 150 by ESPN.com. He was a member of the Region III ODP Team in 2009. He finished with five goals and 16 assists as a junior and three goals and two assists as a senior. He helped guide his team to the Academy playoffs his junior year.
Brennan, a 6-0 goalkeeper, played soccer for four years at Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, Ill. A four year starter, Brennan posted seven shutouts, 42 saves and a 1.01 goals against average as a senior. He finished his career with 40 shutouts and 230 saves. He was an all-state selection his junior and senior years while earning All-American honors his senior year.
Martinez, a 5-8 defender, played varsity soccer all four years. He finished his junior year with seven goals and ten assists. In 2011 his team won the Hacienda League Championship, while also earning All League 1st Team and Team MVP honors. As a senior he was named Team Captain and his senior season is still in progress.
Hairston, a midfielder/forward, is ranked 104th by College Soccer News and 105th in the ESPNHS Top 150 by ESPN.com. He also attends IMG Pendleton School. As a junior he was a member of the U.S. Region III Olympic Development team and was invited to participate in a youth soccer academy in East London at the West Ham United Football Club. He played club soccer for Central Jackson Soccer.
Velez, a 5-10 midfielder, from Longmont, Colo. played in eight games for the Buckeyes in 2011. He played four years with the REAL Colorado Academy and Niwot High School teams, where he led them to three-consecutive appearances in the Colorado Class 4A state championship game as well as winning the championship in 2009 and 2010. He scored 45 goals his final three years of high school, among them being the game-winners in the state semifinal and title games as a junior. He also recorded a career-best 15 assists as a junior in 2009.
Akinsanya, a 5-10 defender, played in 15 games for the Eagles in 2010, starting in six. He helped lead the Eagles to eight shut outs. He was named to the America East All-Rookie team in 2009 and notched two assists in his freshman season. He is the only BU rookie to start all 18 games. He finished with one goal and three assists in two seasons at Boston College.
Foxhoven, a 6-1 forward, played two seasons at ULCA and saw action in 31 games with 10 starts. Last season he dished out two game-winning assists for the Bruins' College Cup team. As a freshman he dished out two assists as well. Foxhoven has been a member of the 2009 U-20 and U-18 National Team pool. He was also a member of the U-14 and U-15 National teams.
Ball, a 6-3 goalkeeper from Germany, comes to Louisville after training with the Broussia Mongchengladbach team from Regionalliga West. Ball has trained with the team as an amateur since 2008.
