As summer approaches, 15 Louisville men's soccer players are preparing for the upcoming Premier Development League (PDL) season. The Cardinals will be well represented with three players each on the rosters of the River City Rovers, Portland Timbers U23, and the Orlando City U23 teams. Six other teams will have a Louisville player on the roster as well.
The Portland Timbers U-23s today announced the addition of Zack Foxhoven, Will Vitalis and Mitch Lurie to their rosters. Foxhoven ranked among the Cardinals leading scorers with five goals in 20 games and tallied four of his goals in substitute appearances. Vitalis earned All-BIG EAST and All-Great Lakes region honors his sophomore season. He finished the year tied for second on the team with four goals and seven assists for 15 points. Lurie transferred to Louisville from Portland in the spring. He finished with two assists his sophomore season while helping the defense to three shutouts. Lurie was a member of the U.S. U18 National team in 2011.
Orlando City announced the addition of Ade Akinsanya, Marlon Hairston and Derek McCaffrey to the roster. Akinsanya played in 18 games for the Cardinals and started in 12 of the game for the Cardinals. He finished the year with five shots. Hairston was named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie team after finishing the season with three goals and three assists. McCaffrey transferred to Louisville from Boston University in the spring. He started 51 games over three seasons with the Terriers scoring game-winning goals against Adelphi and Boston College in 2012. McCaffrey was also named a NSCAA Massachusetts Player of the Year and NSCAA All-American his senior season.
The River City Rovers' will feature Joachim Ball, Jerry Ramirez and Deam Abdehou on the roster. Ball played and started in the first six games for the Cardinals last season. He finished the year with a 1.30 goals-against average and eight saves. Ramirez cracked the Louisville lineup late in the season and started in the final 10 games. He dished out an assist against Winthrop in the NCAA Tournament and helped the Cardinals defense with seven shutouts this season. Abdehou sat out last season, earning a redshirt.
will play for the Chicago Fire U23 team. Keller started in all 21 games for the Cards' backline. He finished the year with one assist and one goal for three points while leading the defense to seven shutouts. Keeper Mike Mauro
will play for FC Tuscon. Mauro started in 14 games and finished the year with a 0.77 goal against average. He collected 38 saves, six shutouts, and a 11-2-1 record in goal.
