Former Standout Frank Jonke Called up to the Canadian National Team

Louisville, Ky. - Former Louisville standout Frank Jonke was called up the Candadian National Team for a pair of friendlies against Denmark and the United States. Jonke was one of 22 players set to participate in a short training camp before games against Denmark in Tucson, AZ, (Jan. 26) and the United States in Houston (Jan. 29).

"First and foremost I feel very honored to have been selected to play for the national team," said Jonke. "It's very exciting and encouraging to know that the hard work that I have put into my career has been recognized. I have to thank all of my coaches, trainers, peers and of course my family that have made this all a possibility for me. I owe a debt of gratitude to the University of Louisville and the coaching staff that allowed and pushed me to reach the potential they believed I had."

Jonke played three seasons for the Cardinals and ranks ninth on the all-time career goals list with 18. During his junior year he started in 15 matches, led the team with seven goals on the season, and earned second team All-Big East honors. In his sophomore season he started in 17 games for the Cardinals, and led the team in goals scored with six goals.

"We are so proud of Frank and his persistent journey of growth to earn a call up to the Canadian National Team," said head coach Ken Lolla. "He has become one of the top strikers in Canada."
