ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The 14th-ranked Louisville men's soccer team completed its three-match preseason slate with a 1-0 loss at Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
After winning their first two exhibition matches, the Cardinals were unable to overcome a first half deficit in their only preseason road test. Louisville finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots in the loss, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
"We played some of our best soccer of the preseason today," said Louisville head coach Ken Lolla. "Although we dominated possession as well as long parts of the match, we struggled to convert the final pass and shot. It was a tremendous growth experience for our team."
The only goal of the day came in the 28th minute when the Wolverines' Ahinga Selemani controlled a through ball from 25 yards away and scored from inside the 18-yard box. Marcos Ugarte was credited with the assist for the home side.
No. 14 Louisville will open the 2014 season on Friday at 8:30 p.m., ET as No. 2 Maryland visits Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium for the inaugural match in the Cardinals' new home facility. The match will be preceded by the Louisville women's soccer team's contest against Ole Miss at 6 p.m.
