Men's Soccer Defeats UNC Asheville 6-0 in Exhibition Play

Asheville, NC - Newcomer Frank Jonke scored the first two goals as the Cardinals defeated UNC Asheville 6-0 in exhibition play at John B. Lewis Soccer Complex Saturday night. The teams played three 35-minute periods as the Cardinals broke open a scoreless tie after the first half with three goals in the second period. Louisville continued the scoring flurry with three goals in the third period.

Louisville controlled the tempo in the first period but UNCA goalkeeper Michael Pereira made three saves on five Louisville shots. The first half was scoreless.

The Cardinals took control in the second period. Jonke scored his first goal at the 40:00 minute mark and scored two minutes later on a rebound to push the Cardinals in front, 2-0.

Sophomore Anthony Celebre scored on a breakaway in the 67th minute to give the Cards a 3-0 lead. Louisville added three goals in the final 35 minutes. Goals from seniors Ryan Edwards (84:00) and Mike Baughn (92:00) increased the margin to 5-0. Senior Matt Neely finished the scoring in the 99th minute when he scored on a penalty kick.

Louisville finished the match with a 20-3 shot advantage.
