Louisville Men's Soccer NCAA College Cup Saturday Training
Simon Bird enters
his second season
with the Louisville Cardinals.
Bird returned
to his alma mater as
a volunteer assistant in
2009.
After playing five
years of semiprofessional
soccer and working as a high school
physical education teacher in England, Bird
returned to the United States in September.
Along with his duties at Louisville, Bird is
also the academy director at the Thoroughbreds
Soccer Club. He coaches the club's U
10, U11 and U16 boy's teams.
Bird began his professional career in England
playing for the Gainsborough Trinity
from 2004-2009. He had a short stint with
the North Ferriby United before returning to
Louisville. Bird is currently playing for the
Louisville Lightning.
A former Cardinal standout, Bird played
three seasons for the Cardinals. Bird ranks
third on the career goals list with 25 goals.
His senior year Bird was named the 2003
Conference USA Player of the year. Bird
led the conference in scoring with 29
points his final season. Bird scored double
digit goals his sophomore season with 11
and his senior season with 12. He ranks
fourth on the season lists in points and
goals.
Bird earned his bachelor's degree in
health and human performance from the
University of Louisville in 2003.
