Junior Grant Sturgeon tops U of L at -2

MURRIETA, CA -- The University of Louisville men's golf team posted impressive rounds of 294 and 291 to finish day one of the San Diego State Invitational alone in fifth place. The event is the final one of the Cards' fall campaign.

Junior Grant Sturgeon had his way with the 7,060-yard firing a 36-hole total of 142 (-2) as reside in a fourth place tie with three other golfers. The group is five shots behind first round leader Justin Ahasic of Santa Clara. Included in Sturgeon's day was a second-round two-under-par score of 70.

Two other Cardinals join Sturgeon in the top 20 after Day One with senior Chris Campbell and junior Dean Halterman standing in 16th place after posting scores of 147 (+3) at the SCGA Members' Club. The duo alternated firing 73 and 74 in each of the first two rounds.

Junior Geoff Nuwash also remains within striking distance of the top 20 just two shots behind Campbell and Halterman at +5.

The tournament resumes Tuesday morning with 18 holes of action to wrap up the U of L fall campaign.
