Men's Golf In Fifth Place After 18 Holes in Texas

LUFKIN, TEXAS -- The University of Louisville men's golf team continued its hot streak firing a first round 304 to place fifth after 18 holes of golf at the Crown Classic in Lufkin, Texas. The second round was delayed until Tuesday morning due to severe weather.

Junior Grant Sturgeon carded U of L's best round of the day, firing a one-over-par 73 to join five other golfers in a tie for eighth place. Sturgeon is four shots behind first round leader Gabe Reynolds of Southwest Texas State.

Sturgeon is the only Cardinal in the top 20 after 18 holes but is just three shots ahead of teammate Greg Garcia. The South African opened his tournament with a 76, shooting an even par 36 on the frontside.

Junior Geoff Nuwash is tied for 32nd at +5 after shooting an opening round of 77.

The 17-team tournament concludes Tuesday with 36 holes of action at the Crown Colony Country Club.
