URBANA, IL -- The University of Louisville men,s golf team stands in an 11th place tie after 18 holes of the Northern Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event is being hosted by the University of Illinois. Play was suspended midway through the second round and will continue on Sunday. The Cardinals' first round 304 hsa them within striking distance of the upper half of the field, just six shots behind sixth place Illinois and Iowa.
Junior Grant Sturgeon tops the Cardinals on the leaderboard, firing a 74 in the opening round to tie for 20th place.
South African native Greg Garcia continues to improve and is two shots behind Sturgeon for team honors with an 18-hole total of 76.
Coastal Carolina transfer Dean Halterman, who is seeing his first action for Mark Crabtree's club started his U of L career with a 77 to tie for 50th place along with teammate Matt Gade.
The second round will resume Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the final 18 holes to follow.
