DELLWOOD, MN -- Helped by a second round team total of 299, the Louisville Cardinal men's golf team holds down seventh place in the 12-team PSINet Collegiate Invitational.

The Cardinals, who have three players among the tournament's top 30 after 36 holes, posted a day one total of 616. U of L will enter the final 18 holes of competition just one shot behind Michigan State and only four shots behind fifth place Rhode Island.

Junior Grant Sturgeon stands in a 22nd place tie after firing 77-76 for a one-day total of 153 (+9). Classmate Geoff Nuwash opened with a disappointing 82 but rebounded to shoot an even par 72 in the afternoon and is tied for 26th place at 10-over-par.

All-Conference USA senior Chris Campbell is one shot behind Nuwash and two others with a 36-hole total of 155 (+11).

The tournament, U of L's first of the 2000-01 season, will conclude Tuesday afternoon with 18 holes of play.
