Geibel Advances to Quarterfinal at USGA Public Links

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's golfer Robert Geibel has advanced to the final eight of the United States Golf Association Amateur Public Links.

The UofL sophomore is set to open quarterfinal play against Sterling, Kan.`s Michael Gellerman at 7 a.m. central standard time on Friday. The USGA Amateur Public Links is being held at the Sand Creek Station Golf Club in Newton, Kan.

Geibel advanced to the round of eight by defeating Cody McManus of Phoenix, Ariz. 1-up over 19 holes on Thursday. The 19-year-old broke into match play last week by shooting 140 in the qualifying round to finish tied for tenth.

As a freshman for the Cardinals in 2013-14, Geibel was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and a member of the Ping All-Midwest Region Team. His four top-10 tournament finishes were the most of any Cardinal last season.
